KITE FAQs

When are the best kite conditions in Dakhla?

Our spot in Dakhla is one of the windiest places on Earth, boasting an average of 300 days of wind per year.

  • Our lighter wind months are December and January, averaging two to three days of wind per week at 15-20 knots. This is also a perfect time to go surfing or paddle boarding.

  • Our mid season is from February to mid-March, where winds pick up from 18-25 knots.

  • Our high season takes place the majority of the year, from mid-March until early October, with an average wind speed of 25 knots.

  • Dakhla’s summer months tend to be warmer, while the spring and fall months are typically cooler. However, it is important to note that due to climate change, weather patterns are changing around the world.

What kitesurf levels is the lagoon spot suitable for?

The Dakhla Peninsula is a flat water haven for all levels of riders, from beginners to advanced freestylers, with a spacious beach that makes it safe and easy to learn and practice. The water depth gradually changes as the tide ebbs and flows, giving variety to those who also want to explore the world of kite foiling and wing foiling. There are also seasonal wave spots available within a 30-minute drive for those who love to go kitesurfing, paddle surfing, and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP).

What should you expect from kitesurfing lessons at Naish Kite House at Caravan Dakhla?

We follow the IKO lesson plan, which is a series of technical and practical courses in a specified order that get you riding safely to the next level. These lessons include:

  • Learn the basic theory and application to your environment. Understand aerodynamics, kite technology, and equipment coupled with basic kite flying, relaunching, and safety protocols.

  • Apply your theory and harness the wind’s power through power strokes and one-hand kite flying.

  • Apply all your prior courses in the water. Understand and feel the flow of your body in sync with the wind. Learn to handle the kite and board at the same time, ride in both directions, and come to a complete stop.

  • Progression in kiteboarding is key, and new experiences are always on the horizon. Book your continuing education based on your instructor’s advice.

What kitesurf lessons and packages are offered?

We offer two-hour private or semi-private lessons, as well as a six-hour package of three two-hour sessions, which can be renewed at your convenience, goals, and needs.
